“Moxibustion has a positive effect and plays a part in reducing the number of breech presentations at term.

Moxibustion for breech presentation

Evidence suggests that Moxibustion, when combined with acupunture/acupressure or postural techniques, is a safe and effective way to increase the likeyhood of turning a breech baby to cephalic presentation (head down). Studies have found the treatment to be effective in up to 90% of cases. We offer this treatment from 32 weeks of pregnancy.

What is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion is a form of therapy originating from China that adds energy into the body so is very supportive for a range of conditions. It is frequently, and effectively, used alongside acupuncture and acupressure. In our treatments we use indirect Moxa where acupressure points and reflexes are warmed with the Moxa stick. It is a very safe and effective and enhances our acupressure and reflexology treatments.

The Appointment

During the appointment you will receive a reflexology treatment to open the pelvis, creating space for baby to turn, combined with moxibustion to encourage your baby to turn from breech to cephalic presentation.

In addition to the treatment, you will be taught effective positions and rebozo scarf techniques to encourage baby to turn. We will provide video demonstration videos of these to help you practice at home.

We will also provide you with a kit and full guidance for your partner to carry out moxa at home.

Treatments are with Heather, a registered midwife and specialist maternity reflexologist.

“My baby turned from breech after having reflexology with Heather. I was delighted to have a normal birth after worrying about having a c.section. Heather offered lots of advice to help with positions and methods to turn baby head down. Heather is very knowledgeable and I would thoroughly recommend her”
