Always test, never guess.

You’ve more than likely had some tests, been to your GP and been told everything is fine.

And for what GPs look at, they are right. For fertility, however, they aren’t.

Let’s say one of the tests you had was for Vitamin D. Your result was 55 ng/ml, so your GP doesn’t see anything to worry about. When we look at that, we tell you it’s low.

Why? Because GPs are only looking for deficiencies (anything below 50), not optimal health. What we’re looking for are the levels to give you the best chance of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy.

Our testing covers everything that can affect your ability to conceive, and having a full understanding of what’s going on in your body is key to knowing what your next steps are.

Our tests can be done at our clinic in Sutton Coldfield, with most results being back within 24 hours.

Once the results are back, they will be analysed, and when you book a consultation, you’ll receive a full breakdown showing you exactly what you need to do going forward.

When should I be tested?

The NICE guidelines recommend testing after 1 year of trying if you’re under 35, and 6 months if you’re over.

Our recommendation is the moment you decide you want a baby so that you can make informed decisions and potentially make things happen quicker.

Imagine that you’ve waited a year before having the tests and something comes back that can be improved with a fairly simple lifestyle adjustment. Wouldn’t you rather have known that a year ago?

The more information you have, the better your chances of having a baby will be.

Initial fertility tests

What tests should I have?

In your consultation, you’ll receive tailored testing recommendations but generally, you’ll receive the most information from having a full range of blood tests (for both partners if possible) initially.

There may be some advanced tests that aren’t carried out by your GP, and these are recommended on an individual basis depending on your fertility health and the initial test results.

Some of the tests that are recommended are available through your GP and on the NHS, so we will always recommend you start there, but we’ll give you a price during the consultation of having the tests done privately.

Some of our tests aren’t available on the NHS, but can be really beneficial for women who fit certain criteria, which will be discussed during your consultation. These tests are:

Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), which is a valuable test for providing information on the quantity of eggs in ovaries, and is considered the gold standard for assessing this.

Microbiome testing which looks for an imbalance in the vaginal microbiome. This can impact fertility and reduce the chances of pregnancy, as well as increasing the risk of miscarriage and pre term births.
